Formscan By Gary Carson - COCOFRED (1) did well to get up and win in Killarney early last month and may be able to bag a follow-up success. The Vadamos gelding didn’t jump well at the business end then but stuck his head down late on to collar Firebrand. He only went up 3lb for that effort and is open to further improvement, especially with a better round of jumping. Firebrand makes his first outing for John Ryan now and remains on the same mark. He is sure to make a bold bid from the front again. Facile Ocean also comes here in winning form and is another that has to be on the shortlist.

This time last year we said he was a right horse and he’d win a bumper. He got balloted out of a few bumpers and we decided to give him a break. We brought him back for the winter but he doesn’t like soft ground, he’s a summer horse. He ran disappointing in two bumpers and we put it down mainly to the ground. We thought he didn’t stay and I’d say that’s as far as he wants it, two miles. He’s a great jumper, loves it, and jumped brilliantly. I’d say the ground was the whole thing for him and he grew up a bit in the meantime as well. He won’t be running in the winter again. He’s a fighter as well. He’s a nice horse at home and we did fancy him to win a bumper, and he would have on good ground but time was running out and we saw this race. It’s for horses that weren’t placed after two runs so we said we’d crack on and go for it. We’ll maybe look for a novice now and I think he’ll win a mile-and-a-half maiden on the Flat. The horse is a little bit of a rogue and is reluctant to go in to the stalls and is then slowly out. He likes that ground and while he ran well here in the past, threw it away at the start. We knew he'd handle the track so we're delighted to get this second win with him. He has lots of ability but looks after himself and we might go over hurdles with him. I told Paddy to be in the first two or three, but he was a little slowly away from some of his hurdles and the track didn't suit him, he'd prefer a more galloping track. He clipped a heel as well and had to come around them after the last, so it was a good performance, considering all that. He might go for a winners' of one at Punchestown next, it's a race we've won before.
