See also » Figero strikes at 20/1 in Kilbeggan's opener This time last year we said he was a right horse and he’d win a bumper. He got balloted out of a few bumpers and we decided to give him a break. We brought him back for the winter but he doesn’t like soft ground, he’s a summer horse. He ran disappointing in two bumpers and we put it down mainly to the ground. We thought he didn’t stay and I’d say that’s as far as he wants it, two miles. He’s a great jumper, loves it, and jumped brilliantly. I’d say the ground was the whole thing for him and he grew up a bit in the meantime as well. He won’t be running in the winter again. He’s a fighter as well. He’s a nice horse at home and we did fancy him to win a bumper, and he would have on good ground but time was running out and we saw this race. It’s for horses that weren’t placed after two runs so we said we’d crack on and go for it. We’ll maybe look for a novice now and I think he’ll win a mile-and-a-half maiden on the Flat. We’ll celebrate this first and then see what happens. Thomas Mullins, trainer

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident approaching the final hurdle involving Sonny Fella, ridden by C.P. Lamon and Try Them, ridden by D. Meyler, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D. Meyler stated that he felt repeated pressure and interference from Sonny Fella
C.P. Lamon stated that his mount was leaning in. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found C.P. Lamon, was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly, and having considered his clean record in this regard they suspended him for two racedays
The Raceday Stewards reviewed an incident at the last hurdle where it appeared that Figero, ridden by Michael Kenneally, jumped left across Codger's Rock (IRE), ridden by B. W. Harvey. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident turning away from the stands involving Diamond Secret (FR), ridden by B. Hayes, Poet's Duke, ridden by C. Stone-Walsh, Rosie's Wings, ridden by L.A. McKenna, Solar Generation, ridden by R.A. Doyle, and Sonny Fella, ridden by C.P. Lamon, where it appeared Diamond Secret clipped a heel. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. B. Hayes stated that the gap in front of him tightened up and he had to take a check. C. Stone-Walsh stated that he felt pressure from the outside on the bend when things tightened up. L.A. McKenna stated that his mount rounded the bend badly. R.A. Doyle stated that he was caught in the backlash of what happened in front of him. C.P. Lamon stated that his mount came in a bit but that he was aware of the horses on his inside. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards did not apportion blame to any rider and took no further action
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident on the bend between the second last and the last hurdle, involving Rosie's Wings, ridden by L.A. McKenna and Sonny Fella (GB), ridden by C.P. Lamon, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. L.A. McKenna stated that he had to take a check when Sonny Fella (GB) came in on top of him and felt contact. C.P. Lamon stated that he tried to cut the bend and was not aware that Rosie's Wings was on his inside. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Thomas Mullins, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Figero, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Thomas Mullins stated that his charge did not like the soft ground on his hurdles debut and appreciated todays better ground which may have brought about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report the Raceday Stewards noted the content.
