THE CHAPEL DOWN HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) Permission was for Gallant (FR) and Mr Writer (IRE) to wear a red hood to post; for Havana Blue (GB) to go early to post and for WALSON’S LAW to go early to post wearing a red hood.
Havana Blue (GB) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
Tex (FR) arrived at the start with a small amount of blood in its mouth.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
Half a furlong out, the winner, Tex (FR), drifted marginally left-handed, intimidating Havana Blue (GB), placed second, slightly off its intended line causing the rider of ILLY’S ROO (IRE), placed fifth, to become a short for room between Havana Blue (GB) and WALSON’S LAW, placed fourth, and take a slight check but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Tex (FR).
The winner, Tex (FR) appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Kempton on 27 May 2026 where the gelding finished twelfth of fourteen runners, beaten by 20 lengths.
George Baker’s explanation that gelding benefitted from a short break of 58 days, was noted.
Tex (FR) was routine tested.
Following the race, Kaiya Fraser reported that ILLY’S ROO (IRE), placed fifth, was short for room on the run to the line.
