The Raceday Stewards received a request from Joseph Patrick O'Brien, trainer of Starford, to substitute the nominated rider M.W Hassett with D. Browne McMonagle. Evidence was heard from Damien Byrne, Authorised Representative for the trainer concerned who stated that M. W. Hassett was declared on Starford to assist in his bid for the apprentice title which was now secured and he further added that D. Browne McMonagle was at Del Mar but had arrived back in time to take up the mount. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards denied the request as the request was neither timely nor valid
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Starford, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal
