The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Rockbury Lad (GB), ridden by L.F. Roche, placed fourth, Roman Palace, ridden by C.D. Hayes, unplaced, and Kampala Beach, ridden by R.P. Whelan, placed first, where it appeared Rockbury Lad ran short of room and had to check off heels
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. L. F. Roche stated that both horses went for a gap but he did not get there and had to check. C. D. Hayes stated that his race was run and he was going backwards but eased his mount when he received pressure. R. P. Whelan stated that he moved in and caused interference but tried to straighten when he heard a shout. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that while Kampala Beach had caused interference to Rockbury Lad, they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They were, however, of the opinion that R. P. Whelan, was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard the Raceday Stewards suspended R. P. Whelan for six race days
L.F. Roche, rider of Rockbury Lad (GB), trained by M.D. O'Callaghan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount had to check in the straight
C.D. Hayes, rider of Roman Palace, trained by Luke Comer, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount received pressure from its outside about one and a half furlongs down and was eased as a result.
