THE COVENTRY STAKES (CLASS 1) (Group 2) Permission was given for Cut A Dash (GB), Easy Answer (IRE), God Given Talent (IRE), Siouxperb (GB), and The Harv (IRE) to wear a red hood to post, for Final Objective (IRE) to go early to post, and for MARAIR (IRE) to wear a red hood and be ponied early to post.
Ruler's Pride (IRE) wore earplugs to be removed at the start.
The Investigating Officer reported that Robson De Aguiar, the trainer of Bull Shark (IRE) and POWER BLUE (IRE), had brought Twydil Vigorade, Electrolyte Gold, Twydil Hippacan +C, and an empty box of Superlyte Paste, all of which were electrolytes, and what appeared to be a bag of salt, into the racecourse stables.
The trainer, the Director of Equine Regulation, Safety and Welfare, and the Stable Inspecting Officer were interviewed.
Being satisfied that both horses had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed them both to run, and ordered they be routine tested.
They further confiscated the substance and ordered that it should also be tested.
A report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.
Siouxperb (GB) was given permission to race without its left-hind shoe as it was unable to be refitted after the colt lost it in the stables.
An enquiry was held to consider why The Harv (IRE), trained by M D O’Callaghan, had arrived in the Parade Ring with an unapproved lip chain.
After being interviewed, O’Callaghan’s attention was drawn to Equipment Code (E)18, which requires any lip chain be covered and connected to a lead rope under the control of a handler, unless it is a French lip chain which must be removed before going to the start.
Inside the final two furlongs, Final Objective (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed despite the rider’s best efforts making contact with RULER’S PRIDE (IRE), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference on the run to the line involving the winner, Great Barrier Reef (IRE), ridden by W M Lordan; Royal Heritage (GB), placed third, ridden by James Doyle; Final Objective (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Faleh Bughenaim; Mrair (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Oisin Murphy; and Adaay Of Scarlett (IRE), placed second, ridden by Billy Loughnane.
The interference was found to be accidental as Royal Heritage (GB), which was racing greenly, shied left-handed away from Great Barrier Reef (IRE) on the run to the line causing Final Objective (IRE) and Mrair (IRE) to suffer interference, which was compounded by Adaay Of Scarlett (IRE) hanging right-handed.
