Permission was given for Just Typical (GB) to wear a red hood to post.

Leaving the stalls, Just Typical (GB), unplaced, jumped awkwardly and shifted right-handed bumping Light Up Our Stars (IRE), placed second, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Charlatan (IRE), ridden by Taryn Langley and trained by David Simcock, which was dropped out towards the rear early and settled on the rail, before being ridden somewhat conservatively at crucial stages rounding the home bend and in the early part of the home straight despite being poorly positioned, prior to staying on strongly inside the final furlong once asked for maximum effort to finish fifth of ten runners, beaten 2¾ lengths.

Being a 7lb claimer, Langley was accompanied by a senior rider.

The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that two post-race examinations of Charlatan (IRE), which was selected for routine testing revealed no abnormalities.

The rider stated that her instructions were to jump out and sit where she was happy, before riding the race as she found it thereafter.

Langley explained that she was content with her position throughout and the gelding travelled well off a pace she considered to be just modest.

Langley indicated that approaching the home turn she angled her mount wider around the heels of Light Up Our Stars (IRE) to avail herself of clear running when looking to improve her position.

Langley however acknowledged that her riding rounding the home bend and in the early part of the straight amounted to a misjudgement of her surroundings and contributed to Charlatan (IRE) being left with too much ground to make up late in the race.

The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and Mr Simcock was interviewed via telephone, where he expressed concern with the manner in which Charlatan (IRE) was ridden from approximately 2 furlongs out until inside the final furlong, with the gelding being too far out of his ground before being asked to mount his challenge.

Langley was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that Charlatan (IRE) was given full opportunity to obtain the best possible placing.

Following the race, Ryan Kavanagh reported that Just Typical (GB), unplaced, jumped awkwardly from the stalls and then ran too freely.
