Formscan By Michael Graham - SNUGSBOROUGH BENNY looks well worth a crack at this marathon trip. The nine-year-old gelding is sure to be ridden patiently by Denis O'Regan and can creep into contention with a good round of jumping. Although he won the Galway Blazers on rain-softened ground, he has won on good before so this drying ground won't inconvenience him unlike some of the others. Top-weight Tout Est Permis has been going great guns for Noel Meade in winning a handicap then the Troytown and a Grade Two. The ground will be fine for him but horses carrying 11-5 or over don't have a good record in the Irish National. American Grand National winner Jury Duty was mentioned as a possible Irish Grand National horse by Gordon Elliott when he won at Punchestown back in November 2017. He is likely to be popular but has 11-6 on his back. Pairofbrowneyes was a comfortable winner of the Leinster National at Naas for Willie Mullins and is a major player despite carrying 11-5. Any Second Now was a good winner of the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival and has to be respected despite a 7lb rise in the weights. Ruby Walsh has picked Burrows Saint among the battalion that Willie Mullins runs. He is an unexposed type who is hunting a hat-trick after victories in Gowran Park and Limerick. He doesn't have experience of these big-field competitive-steeplechases, though. Isleofhopendreams was caught on the line last year on heavy ground. He is a credit to connections and showed his well-being with a runner-up finish in the Leinster National last month, however, the ground looks to have gone against him. Last year's winner General Principle hasn't been in the same sort of form since and also would prefer a good drop of rain. Total Recall and C'est Jersey (at a price) are others worth considering. The form of the race at Gowran Park that C'est Jersey finished third in is working out very well. Auvergnat will relish the trip and appreciate this better ground. He is one for the shortlist.
