Formscan By Vincent Finegan - This year’s Grand National is all about Tiger Roll and whether or not the diminutive Chaser can win the race for a second consecutive time. He has been in top form on his two starts this season and certainly has a favourite’s chance of emulating the great Red Rum but his price is too short at this stage and it is best to look elsewhere for a bit of value. Pleasant Company was beaten a head by Tiger Roll last year and is a couple of pounds better off at the weights but he has shown nothing in two runs this season. Top weight Anibale Fly was fourth last year and comes here off the back of a career best performance when second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He only has to carry two pounds more on his back than last year but it is still a huge task. Others in this year’s race that have previously completed the National include Bless The Wings (3rd 2018), Vieux Lion Rouge (9th 2018, 6th 2017 and 7th 2016), Just A Par (14th 2017 and 15th 2016), Regal Encore (8th 2017) and of course the 2017 winner One For Arthur. For a selection I suggest a little each-way on JURY DUTY. He has been reported to be working well in Gordon Elliott’s and despite no previous experience of the National fences he has plenty of big race experience having previously run in races like the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham, The Galway Plate and Kerry National. JURY DUTY comes here fresh having had only one run this year, a comfortable victory at Down Royal in soft ground last month, and will be ridden by Robert Power who was on board Elliott’s first Grand National winner Silver Birch in 2007 and has finished the race in each of the last four renewals.
For seven-year-olds and upwards who, up to and including March 19 have started in a steeple chase during the current season and been placed first, second, third or fourth in a steeple chase with an official distance description of' two miles seven and a half furlongs' or more at any time during the horse's career, Horses must also be allotted a rating of 125 or more by the BHA Head of Handicapping following a review of the horses entered and after taking account of races run up to and including February 10. Horses which are not qualified for a rating in Great Britain or Ireland at closing may also be entered. Such horses may be eligible for a weight providing the Handicapper is satisfied that the horse's racecourse performances up to and including February 10 would merit a minimum rating of 125. To qualify, horses must have run at least three times in chases run under the Rules of Racing of the same Recognised Racing Authority up to and including February 10.Weights - Highest weight 11st 10lb - no penalties after publication of the weights
