Formscan By Alan Magee - ESPOIR D’ALLEN can confirm his position as the leading Irish-trained juvenile hurdler so far this term. Gavin Cromwell’s charge has really impressed in completing a hat-trick this term, and a slow early pace last time in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse proved no barrier as he quickened up well in the straight to beat Mitchouka by a convincing four and a half lengths. The latter, who previously recorded easy wins at Fairyhouse and Punchestown, reopposes on just 3lb better terms while the same connections are also represented by Farclas who won on the Flat in France this summer. Mastermind came home strongly to record a 20/1 surprise at Gowran Park last month and is preferred to Grey Waters, beaten a long way by the selection’s stablemate Famous Milly at Aintree.
