Formscan By Alan Magee - A small but certainly select field for this Grade One event and FOOTPAD gets the vote. The five-year-old gelding wasn’t far off the top of the tree over hurdles last term when fourth to Buveur d’Air in the Stan James Champion Hurdle, and looked a real natural over fences when making all for a very easy win on his chasing debut at Navan last month. Death Duty is currently the top rated of the quintet over fences by virtue of his impressive success last time in the Grade One Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse. His route here has been a little unorthodox in terms of the variety of distances but he showed no lack of pace to put the race to bed in the straight last time. A tendency to jump a bit left last time will not be a worry here. Avenir d’Une Vie got his chasing career back on track when making all at Punchestown earlier this month.
