THE WILLIAM HILL EXTRA PLACE RACES DAILY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) Permission was given for Kodi Lion (IRE) to go early, wear a red hood to post; for Humam (IRE) and Sword (GB) to be mounted in the chute; for Arctic Dawn (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Kodi Lion (IRE), trained by Michael Appleby, appeared to show evidence of possible administration of a substance with paste around the mouth.
The Trainer, the Veterinary Officer and Equine Welfare Integrity Officer were interviewed.
Appleby explained that the gelding had been administered with an antibiotic the previous day, 7 August 2026, which was verified having viewed the yard’s medicine book.
Being satisfied that the gelding had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed Kodi Lion (IRE) to run and ordered the gelding to be routine tested.
A report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.
Approaching the furlong pole, Morte Point (GB), unplaced, shifted right-handed moving Kodi Lion (IRE), unplaced, further right-handed at the same time as Humam (IRE), placed third, shifted left- handed causing the rider of Kodi Lion (IRE) to take a check.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
