THE SOUTHWELL RACECOURSE CONFERENCES AND EVENTS NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) Permission was given for Spectical (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
Approaching the final 2 furlongs, Sheikhnshah (FR), placed third, lugged quickly right-handed, bumping Star Of The Desert (USA), placed second, which in turn made contact with a weakening Clatford (IRE), unplaced, which was moved off its intended racing line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Sheikhnshah (FR).
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the final furlong involving Halimede (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Poppy Scott, Burrows Silver (FR), unplaced, ridden by Andrew Mullen and Cliff Danger (GB), unplaced, ridden by Finley Marsh.
As a 7lb claiming apprentice, Scott was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider.
The interference was found to be accidental as Halimede (IRE) had hung left-handed despite the best efforts of Scott, moving Burrows Silver (FR) off its intended line, causing Mullen to take a check when tight for room and in turn give a slight bump to Cliff Danger (GB), resulting in Marsh taking a precautionary check on that gelding.
