Formscan By Tom Weekes - CARTWRIGHT is a hopeful pick on his return following a break. A progressive and ultimately smart type on the flat, he showed very useful form over hurdles last season, culminating with a fifth placing in a Grade 1 at Punchestown in April and while his latest two hurdle outings were disappointing, one was in the Galway Hurdle, when he was eased late-on and his latest disappointment was when his rider reported “that his mount didn't handle the track” at Downpatrick. He obviously needs to return to form today and while it is difficult to know what to expect on reappearance run, his rider takes off 5lbs and he could figure from his current rating. Hareth won this race last year from just 5lbs lower and while he was beaten 30L on his most recent start at Fairyhouse, the front-running winner won by a wide margin then and Hareth is very likely to be primed for today's race. He has form on good ground in the past but would ideally prefer easier ground, which is a concern. Ronald Pump was handed a 13lbs hike for winning well, and beating Agusta Gold into second, at Fairyhouse recently and while the drop back to today's trip shouldn't prove too many problems, given her won at this trip at Cork previously, the weight hike certainly won't help. Chatham Street Lad has been shrewdly placed and while he now competes from a career high mark, has his chance today, albeit he might want slightly slower ground. Melly And Me is interesting at the bottom of the weights and while he is 1lb out of the handicap, remains a little unexposed and can win from his rating.
