THE PERTEMPS NETWORK HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBBPLUS RACE) Permission was given for Almekarem (IRE), Everyoneknowsadave and On The Inlet (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
Approaching 1 furlong out, Canvas (GB), placed second, shifted right-handed before being corrected taking Optician (GB), placed third, slightly off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Canvas (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final ½ furlong involving, the winner, Almekarem (IRE), ridden by Luke Morris, Canvas (GB), placed second, ridden by Kieran O’Neill and Optician (GB), placed third, ridden by Conor Whiteley.
Morris was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from drifting right-handed taking Canvas (GB) off its intended line and in turn moving Optician (GB) off its intended line, thereafter Morris continued to drift right-handed resulting in O’Neill having to check his mount off the heels of Almekarem (IRE).
The performance of Highland Olly (GB) which finished last of seventeen runners, beaten 48 ¾ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that Grant Tuer’s representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer examined Highland Olly (GB) post-race and had nothing to report.
Following the race, Oisin Murphy reported that Fans Favourite (GB), unplaced, stumbled leaving the stalls and was slowly away as a result.
