HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference three furlongs out involving the winner, Bluenose Belle (USA), ridden by Finn Lambert, Rukaana (GB), placed second, ridden by Benjamin Macey and WOODY’S BOY (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Alan Doyle.
In arriving at their decision, the Stewards considered the distance where the incident occurred from the finish, the winning margin of two lengths separating Bluenose Belle (USA) and Rukaana (GB) as well as their relative finishing efforts with Rukaana (GB) always being comfortably held, on the run to the line.
The Stewards therefore could not be satisfied that Rukaana (GB) would have finished in front of Bluenose Belle (USA) had the interference not occurred and ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
Lambert was suspended for 10 days for careless riding as he shifted left-handed into a packing field and was insufficiently clear of Rukaana (GB) and subsequently WOODY’S BOY (IRE) causing both horses to clip heels and stumble.
The winner, Bluenose Belle (USA), did not enter the winners enclosure on veterinary advice.
