A.J. Slattery, rider of Servare (USA), trained by Andrew Slattery, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount leaned right late on
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from J.A.Stack, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Jordi Bear, placed first, as compared with its recent form. J. A. Stack stated that his charge has recently been gelded and this coupled with the application of first time cheek pieces had helped to bring about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report the Raceday Stewards noted the explanation given
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages of this race involving Which Wolf Wins, ridden by D. Browne McMonagle, placed second, Nazario, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, unplaced, Invincible Will, ridden by G.F. Carroll, placed third, and Servare (USA), ridden by A.J. Slattery, placed fourth, where it appeared Nazario ran short of room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D. Browne McMonagle stated that a gap presented and when he committed the two horses in front of him also moved right. J. A. Heffernan stated that he maintained a straight line. G. F. Carroll stated that he moved marginally left. A. J. Slattery stated that he moved across a little but did his best to maintain his line. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found D. Browne McMonagle, was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden careless, and having considered his record in this regard (second offence) the Raceday Stewards suspended D
Browne McMonagle for four racedays.
