THE DOWNLOAD THE RACEDAY READY APP HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (DIV I) Permission was given for Based (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
It was noted that rounding the home bend, Beaming Light (GB), unplaced, had to be checked and switched left-handed to avoid the heels of a weakening Havanita (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after turning into the home straight involving African Spirit (IRE), placed third, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa; the winner, Iconic Times (GB), ridden by Sean Dylan Bowen; Dashing Donkey (GB), unplaced, ridden by Josephine Gordon; and Cooramook (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jack Callan.
The interference was found to be accidental as off the home bend Callan on Cooramook (IRE) obtained a tight but legitimate gap to the inside of Dashing Donkey (GB) which fanned off the rail whilst making the running at almost the same time as Dylan Bowen presented Iconic Times (GB) to take a narrow but legitimate gap between Dashing Donkey (GB) and African Spirit (IRE) which was hanging right-handed having raced outside the leader.
When De Sousa attempted to correct African Spirit (IRE) and get it to change leads having cornered very awkwardly, it shifted left-handed and briefly moved Iconic Times (GB) off its intended line, before thereafter Iconic Times (GB) moved left-handed away from African Spirit (IRE) of its own accord and despite Dylan Bowen’s effort to straighten the gelding which firstly crowded Dashing Donkey (GB) onto Cooramook (IRE) forcing Callan to take a significant check when tightened for room against the rail before Gordon then had to ultimately take a substantial check on Dashing Donkey (GB) when running out of racing room to the inside of Iconic Times (GB).
The winner, Iconic Times (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Wolverhampton on 1 June 2026 where the gelding finished tenth of 12 runners, beaten by 7 lengths.
Jennie Candlish’s representative’s explanation that Iconic Times (GB) had benefitted from the reapplication of cheekpieces, was noted.
The gelding was routine tested.
