He’s a nice horse. Obviously he was with Prunella Dobbs and when she retired I was lucky to get him,. He won well last year in the Curragh for her. We thought he might take a blow today and Chris said he did but he was just tough and genuine. Hopefully he can improve a little bit for it. He was in good form coming here and, he came out of his Bellewstown race very well. The ground was probably a little bit soft for him the last day, good ground here today suited him better. Paddy gave him a nice even ride, very straightforward. He picked up nicely and,galloped to the line. He loves that ground. He had two runs earlier in the year and we thought he was coming to himself, but the ground was good on those days. Since Galway, we’ve been waiting for a bit of soft ground for him - the softer it is the better. When I was coming down the road, and could see the floods the whole way, I was thinking we could be in business here today. Martin (Sheridan, owner) has been a big supporter of the yard and it’s great for him to have a horse like this. He’s getting a bit older and I was thinking ‘does he still have it?’. It’s great to see him bounce back there. He’s been a good servant. He won a big handicap in Haydock last year and the year before he won a premier handicap in Cork. Soft ground is the key to him. We’ll see what the handicapper does and try and find something similar. It’s his time of the year now and hopefully he can go in again.

He had won well at Galway and, while he didn't run so well at Roscommon, today he was perfect and I had a willing partner up the straight. I had previously ridden Free Solo at the Curragh, he led me and I found a nice run in the straight. I wasn't sure if we had won and Daniel King (denied in a close third on Brave Troop) has a valuable claim and I wasn't sure if he got up on the line. The O'Donnell family are from Co Limerick and not too far from here and I've known them for years, so it is great to ride a winner for them. Thank you to Pat Healy (Listowel committee) and Mark Enright (retired jockey) for organising this and it is great to be here. I spent lots of time as a child hanging around the weigh room wanting to be a jockey and to ride a winner here is a big relief. My mother (from nearby Killarney) is very excited and I'm sure she enjoyed this one!. Unfortunately I have other business commitments today and am at the Sales, but this is brilliant. The horse had good form and Mark (Enright, retired jockey) contacted me to say Oisin was available, so it was a no brainer to use him. I said to my wife that he was beaten turning in, but these good riders just find a way to win and he was fantastic. Oisin and my son Patrick go back a long way from when they went pony racing together, are friends and were also apprenticed together. The horse is owned by a great syndicate and this means an awful lot.

You can never be confident enough to actually say today is the day. I’m delighted, I’m delighted Paddy rode him and for everyone involved. He won this day last year as well and I think Killarney suits him. He has a long enough straight there that when he gets into a fight he’s able to stick his head out. I was hopeful but lightning doesn’t strike twice. I was so happy with the way he came out of the Curragh.

He’s a horse that has been given us a bit of trouble at home. He’s keen and we were running him over six furlongs just to try and hold on to him. I thought the step up to seven would suit him today, in a race like this with plenty of pace. Ben said he relaxed well, was a bit green when he went for him first, but he said he finished the race out strongly. He hasn’t been doing that. We’re happy that he has today and he’s on the right track. Hopefully, he can keep improving now. He’s bred to probably stay another furlong, but I’d say seven is a good trip at the moment.
