Formscan By Donal Murphy - The most open Champion Hurdle in many years. Sea Pigeon was the last ten-year-old to win the opening day highlight and SUPASUNDAE might be able to follow in his hoof prints now. The admirable Jessica Harrington trained bay has been around the block a few times at this stage, but he ran with great credit at Leopardstown on his first start of the season, finishing a never nearer fourth to Honeysuckle. He can be expected to improve plenty for that performance and it'll come as no surprise if he manages to add another Cheltenham Festival success to his name here, following on from his victory in the Coral Cup in 2017. Darver Star and Petit Mouchoir finished ahead of the selection when they clashed at the Dublin Racing Festival, with the Gavin Cromwell trained former given second preference. The son of Kalanisi has improved beyond all measure over the last year and he was in fact beaten into third in a maiden hurdle for unplaced horses at Wexford on St Patrick's Day twelve months ago. He did since prevail at Bettyville, while also scoring at Downpatrick, neither recognised stomping grounds for future champions. The supplemented Cilaos Emery warrants the utmost respect, while Epatante, Cornerstone Lad, Ballyandy and Pentland Hills look the best of the home team. Epatante impressed in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, but needs to step up again to win here, while Cornerstone Lad is well capable of outrunning his likely odds.
