Formscan By Tom Weekes - 'In Willie we trust' and BENIE DES DIEUX can follow up last year's success in this race despite a lack of match-practice. Mullins has employed similar strategies with Quevega, who won her last five renewals of the race on her seasonal reappearance while Annie Power was a final flight faller when returning in 2015. BENIE DES DIEUX's form since joining Mullins has been excellent and while she beat last year's runner-up Midnight Tour by 0.5L, she then defeated that rival by 25L at Punchestown. Last year's renewal also saw this year's top class Apple's Jade finish third. The merits of having this race at the festival has a Saipan-like ability to divide opinions but it is safe to assume an on-song BENIE DES DIEUX could comfortably fit into some of the big races during the week. Stablemate Stormy Ireland had been headed when falling at the final flight in last year's Triumph Hurdle and has since bumped into two Champion Hurdle contenders on her latest two starts. She looks likely to get involved for the placings again today but might struggle to beat the selection. Another stablemate Limini won the 2016 mares' novices hurdle at the festival and filled third place behind Apple's Jade in this race in 2017 and is another smart mare. She returned to action following a 16 months layoff last July and while her form has been good to a point, she has yet to improve from her best hurdles form prior to her layoff and might also struggle to beat the selection, but can place.
