THE MIDNITE AWC APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Permission was given for Muy Muy Loco (IRE) to go early to post.
The winner, Under The Sun (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Lingfield on 31 January 2026 where the gelding finished last of twelve runners, beaten by eleven lengths.
It was noted that the trainer’s representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form.
Under The Sun (GB) was routine tested.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Beta Reader (GB), unplaced, ridden by Tyrese Cameron and trained by Laura Mongan, which was ridden at the rear of the field throughout the race before being asked for a delayed effort in the home straight.
Cameron was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The rider stated his instructions were to jump well and settle Beta Reader (GB) just behind the leaders and then come with a run in the home straight.
The trainer confirmed that these were his instructions.
Cameron explained that he jumped slower from the stalls than he would’ve liked and dropping his mount in from a wide draw, he was further back than he wanted and therefore wasn’t able to obtain a handy position, forcing him to find cover at the rear of the field.
He further explained that after initially going at a level pace, it soon slackened, and he felt he was too far away from the leaders.
Coming down the false straight he stated he did not want to go around My Awele (IRE) so he didn’t get trapped wide, forcing him to delay his effort in the home straight.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Ashley Lewis reported that My Awele (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed and Mason Paetel reported that Muy Muy Loco (IRE), placed fifth, ran too free.
