Permission was given for HE’S AN ANGEL to go early to post; for Woodhay Whisper (IRE) to be mounted in the chute and go early to post; and for Em Jay Kay (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the 3 furlong marker, involving Horus (GB), unplaced ridden by Kyle McHugh, Sovereign Class (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Oliver Stammers, and Opal Storm (GB), unplaced, ridden by Aiden Brookes.
Being a 7Ib Claiming Apprentice, McHugh was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider.
McHugh was suspended for 7 days for careless riding as he attempted to take a gap to the inside of Sovereign Class (IRE) when there was insufficient racing room, which resulted in Opal Storm (GB) being severely checked against the rail, which prompted Brookes to ease the mare out of the race thereafter.
Leaving the stalls, Em Jay Kay (GB), unplaced, jumped right-handed at the same time as Bomb Squad (IRE), unplaced, jumped slightly left-handed, resulting in Horus (GB), unplaced, being hampered and bumping with Lastchancezouloon (GB), unplaced, which was inconvenienced and had its hind quarters turned, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Leaving the back straight, a free running SAM’S HOPE, placed fifth, hung left-handed despite the riders best efforts, hampering Sovereign Class (IRE), unplaced, for some distance and causing the filly to lose its position between runners, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of SAM’S HOPE.
Approaching 2½ furlongs out, a free running HE’S AN ANGEL, placed fourth, shifted right-handed, causing Sovereign Class (IRE), unplaced, to be briefly tightened for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of HE’S AN ANGEL.
Following the race, Edward Greatrex reported that Lastchancezouloon (GB), unplaced, suffered interference 1 furlong out; Finley Marsh reported that Bomb Squad (IRE), unplaced, was denied a clear run in the closing stages; and the Veterinary Officer reported that Thank The Lord (GB), placed third, had lost its left-hind shoe.
