Permission was given for Marajito (GB) to go to post early and for Dashing Harry (GB) to be mounted on the course and to go to post early.
Blue Force (IRE) wore ear plugs throughout.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding Alhather (IRE), unplaced, ridden by John Egan and trained by D J Murphy.
Egan was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The rider stated his instructions were to take up a prominent position early on and make the running in the hope of staying on for the win as the gelding had done previously at Newcastle having employed similar tactics.
Egan went on to explain having jumped from stall 5 he was able to race in leading position approaching 2 furlong marker when he had to ease his mount for several strides in anticipation of becoming short of room between Dashing Harry (GB) on his outside and Imperial Guard on his inside which had switched left handed around the heels of Level Up for a clear run.
EGAN further stated that having gotten Alhather back into stride he found himself behind a wall of horses at which point he elected to angle his mount in to take the run which opened briefly between Blazes Boylan and the winner Zarzyni but was unable to get there as Alhather had by this stage come to the end of it’s run, was weakening quickly and unable to make up any ground on the leaders passing the final furlong marker.
His explanation was noted.
Leaving the stalls, Imperial Guard (IRE), unplaced, jumped left-handed at the same time as Alhather (IRE), unplaced, jumped right-handed and in doing so bumped Blazes Boylan (FR), unplaced, which resulted in Lovat Scout (GB), placed fifth, becoming short of room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Just inside the final furlong, Blazes Boylan (FR), unplaced, shifted left-handed at the same time as Thankuappreciate (GB), placed second, moved right-handed, which resulted in the rider of Lovat Scout (GB), placed fifth, having to take a check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Thankuappreciate (GB).
Following the race, Sean Kirrane reported that Equity Law (GB), unplaced, was hampered at the start, Warren Fentiman reported that Winchurch (IRE), unplaced, was denied a clear run half a furlong out; Billy Loughnane reported that Blazes Boylan (FR), unplaced, hung left-handed from two furlongs out; Pierre-Louis Jamin reported that Lovat Scout (GB), placed fifth, was short of room at the start and was denied a clear run approaching the final furlong and Cam Hardie reported that Blue Force (IRE), placed fourth, jumped left-handed and hung left-handed in the closing stages.
