The only thing I can think of is going up in trip. He ran over two-and-a-half at Sligo one day where he made a bad mistake and should have won. He works like a good horse at home and we always knew he kept a bit for himself on the Flat. His jumping was letting him down earlier on his career as well. He got a few terrible falls and I'd say he lost his confidence as well. We ran him in a few claimers and put him in for E8,000 and we just said if he goes, he goes. I kept telling the lads to get rid of him. He hadn't won since March of 2023 and I just told them to get something else. I knew he had ability and I said to bring him somewhere else either, to see would that work. Thank God neither of those options came to pass!. He is a lovely horse at home and any kid could ride him. He is just a pure rogue. He is handicapped over fences and can go back to Dundalk for those two-mile races as well. He won very easy today so maybe he will go to the next grade over hurdles. When we started with him as a two-year-old we thought he was the best two-year-old we had. He's bred to be a sprinter. In fairness to Robbie Colgan he rode him one day in Fairyhouse over a mile-and-a-half and rode him like that and just got touched off. He probably was a bit weaker last year than he is now. He belonged to Paul and Patricia Hunt and at the end of the year a few of them had to go as Paul had passed on. Albert (Dravins) asked me if there was anything worth buying and we always felt he was some good and that he could win a race somewhere. He jumps very well and he has improved. He stays very well. He keeps at it and I told Jamie if he was going well he was going too slow because he'd need to get the rest of them off the bridle and at it because he just keeps galloping. If you waited for them they'd go past him. I watched the race with Paul Flynn (trainer of runner-up The Truant) and Paul beating me and I was beating him, it was very funny. His owner's partner passed away last year and they are having a charity golf day and they are all over at that. I'm sure they are watching on TV. He's probably a horse for the two-mile-five race on the Saturday at Galway. It is nice to have one to come and race in the big race on a Sunday and it is brilliant to win,. . Mark said there was likely to be plenty of pace in the race so I said to him to bounce out and go with them. He has a tendency to jump left so Mark's plan was to get out to the outer. He made plenty use of his light weight. He was very lucky to win in Kilbeggan when he would have finished third or fourth only for two horses to fall and was then unlucky at Downpatrick when he jumped violently left at the second-last. A nice performance. We always thought he was a good horse. He just had a wee slight hiccup last year, so we gave him a year off. His comeback run (sixth in Downpatrick) was quite good when he made the running and just got tired the last 50 yards. Today worked out fine, Caragh was good on him. Caragh rides a lot of work for us and, a small team like us, we have to repay the people that are good to you. He has schooled over fences and we will probably put him over fences next. He bought Gangsta Granny off Mrs (Jessica) Harrington in an online sale and she told me that she has ability, and that a change of yard would probably help. I was very disappointed with her at Bellewstown the last day on tacky ground when she hung badly and she was beaten after only two miles. She loves it around here though and Sean gave her a fantastic ride. We'll see what the handicapper gives her and you'd have to come back here, maybe in two weeks' time. He’d a nice run in Down Royal where he pulled too hard and didn’t get home. We thought if he improved on that, he might be third to Willie’s pair. Johnny (Barry) liked him that day and rang me a few days ago looking to ride him again which was a good sign. He was left in front a long way out which wasn’t ideal, and the horse running of the bend wasn’t ideal, so he’s done well to win.
