It’s more of a relief than anything else. It’s been a while coming and unfortunately horses like him tend to get a reputation maybe for being ungenuine and it wouldn’t be well deserved in his case. He’s been second five times and third and fourth another four times, I think. We were just wondering if it was ever going to happen. We’ve employed a little bit more positive tactics with him. We did in Leopardstown the last day but he just hit a soft patch of ground about half-a-furlong from home and it stopped him in his tracks. The ground was beautiful here today and he did it handy enough in the end.

My nephew Paddy Cody rode him to win in a common canter the last day but couldn't do the weight today. He had a lovely low weight today but I told Sam (Ewing) to keep a squeeze on him today as she can be lairy. Sam said he was lairy the whole way around but I knew it would take a fair horse to go by him. He is well able to jump but when he doesn't concentrate, he can be sloppy. He has a big engine, is a very good horse and going forwards, hopefully he'll be a graded horse. He has the ability but getting him out of it is the thing.

The horse is a little bit of a rogue and is reluctant to go in to the stalls and is then slowly out. He likes that ground and while he ran well here in the past, threw it away at the start. We knew he'd handle the track so we're delighted to get this second win with him. He has lots of ability but looks after himself and we might go over hurdles with him. That is Keithen's first winner for me, and he actually started off riding out for me. He is also from Monasterevin and is from a talented family, as his sister is a multiple world champion at Irish dancing. He's a nice horse. He was a very late foal and we had to just take our time with him, but he has a very nice pedigree. We always thought there was something in the tank, so we never really pushed too hard. This year he has come to himself and we think there is more to come. Very green (on debut) and even there when Billy pulled him out, he was a bit green and ran about a bit, but straightened himself and come home. Galileo Noir is a good horse and it’s easier when they are good! At Naas the last day, he arrived into contention going really easy, but blew up and just got tired. I was a bit worried that the trip (1m1f) might be too far, but they went steady. He has loads of boot and Colin said we could bring him back to a mile, but I’d say a mile-and-a-quarter will suit him well. He has quite a nice pedigree, and he’s a good-looking horse who probably likes that ground as well. It’s great to win and we’ll just take one day at a time with him. We’ll enjoy that and see where we go from there.

We were hoping for her to just come home well and have her for another day but Billy (Lee) said he had loads of horse and was happy to kick on, so it worked out brilliantly. She is great to break from the stalls so I told Billy that, but to then get her settled. He did exactly the plan, is a brilliant rider and has had a fantastic week. I'm not too far from the Gleesons and have been friendly with Damien for many years. He has been a great friend and, more recently, John has been calling to ride out and we're great friends as well. The filly came, I was delighted to keep her and she is a beautiful filly, is beautifully bred and is so placid. The kids even ride her in from the paddock, and she is that kind of filly. Today is unbelievable and is my first winner on the Flat so we'll have to regroup now. I have 12 in training, split between Flat and National Hunt, and I have a great team at home so I want to keep it that way. My dad Eddie puts in trojan work and 'Paddy the Painter' Patsy Leahy rides out, so we have a small, tight-knit team.

I suppose he's back down to a rating of 80 which is a help to him, and the jockey’s 7lb claim helped as well. Patrick is an excellent claimer and has been very good all year for us. He has ridden winners and a lot of placed horses for us and I thought he gave that horse an exceptional ride, having received a lovely briefing from Ben Coen beforehand. We have a nice team in place with riders, which is a big help to us. The horse found plenty and that (1m2f) is absolutely his trip, he hits the line strong over that trip and loves the surface here. He's turning 10 in the new year, so every day is a bonus now. He's a lovely horse for the yard and hopefully he will come back here again or run over hurdles at Christmas.

Billy gave him a lovely ride, got a good position throughout the race and he picked up nicely. He had won previously at Gowran and while we always felt he wanted 1m4f, we didn't get our tactics right the last few times. We got him to relax today, took blinkers off and put the cheekpieces back on and everything worked. Unfortunately Jim (Nicholson) isn't here and while I was in the UK with him recently and we travelled home together on the same flight, he couldn't come due to work commitments. I told him to come, without me sounding too confident, so he'll probably be sorry to miss out. Jim is from outside Belfast, is steeped in racing through his association with Down Royal and the Tote, and is a very good owner.
