Formscan By Tom Weekes - GOLDEN SPEAR has only ever won once over hurdles and despite being a seven year old, remains something of a dark horse in handicap company and might win this competitive contest. His only hurdles win came when beating subsequent Galway Hurdle winner Tigris River back in September 2015 but he has shown a solid level of ability both on the flat and over hurdles since then and ran an eye-catching race when fourth at Leopardstown last month. Today's capable rider again takes off 7lbs and he is ideally suited by ground and trip. Ballyoisin reverts to hurdling here and is a fascinating runner. A keen-going front-runner, he has proven himself as a smart chaser and now competes from 25lbs below his chase rating. That entitles him to have every chance but he does lack a recent outing and whether or not he will be as effective in a big-field handicap hurdle is another possible concern. Low Sun won a valuable contest at Fairyhouse last week and while his rider again takes off a useful 7lbs, he has been described as being 'lazy as sin' by his trainer and now also faces an 8lbs penalty. Ten Ten is interesting in his first handicap but does lack experience and is without a run since his maiden hurdle win in November.
