THE PALACE OF HOLYROODHOUSE (CLASS 2 HANDICAP) Permission was given for Revival Power (IRE) to go early to post, and for Ghost Mode (IRE), Simplify (IRE), May Angel (GB), Jazl (IRE), Westport (IRE), Exclamation (IRE), Gold Digger (IRE), Black Star Boy (IRE), Miss Yechance (IRE), Dazzling Haze (GB), Tricky Tel (GB), and Cherry Baker (GB) to wear a red hood to post, and for Bacio (USA) to be ponied early to post.
Zelaina (GB) and Miss Yechance (IRE) to wear earplugs to be removed at the start.
Miss Yechance (IRE) lost its right-fore shoe on the way to post.
As K R Burke had not indicated that the filly should be withdrawn in the event of losing a shoe on the way to post, and noting that the farrier at the start was unable to fit a replacement, Miss Yechance (IRE) ran without its right-fore shoe.
The Clerk of the Scales objected to the winner, Bacio (USA), ridden by Juan J Hernandez, and trained by Wesley Ward on the grounds of the rider originally weighing in at 9st 3lbs having weighed out at 9st 5lbs.
The rider, the trainer and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed and recordings of the rider unsaddling his horse in the winner’s enclosure were viewed.
After viewing the recordings and noting that a representative of Ward had taken the over-girth whilst Hernandez was in the process of unsaddling, Hernandez was re-weighed with the over-girth, which had been located in the winner’s enclosure, and was found to be within allowable parameters.
Therefore, being satisfied that Bacio (USA) had carried the correct weight during the race, the Stewards confirmed the placing of Bacio (USA).
Hernandez was suspended for 1 day for weighing in without the full equipment with which he weighed out.
The performance of Jazl (IRE), which finished unplaced, was considered.
It was noted that Simon & Ed Crisford could offer no explanation for the gelding's performance.
Following the race, David Egan reported that Ipanema Queen (IRE), placed sixth, hung right-handed.
