Permission was given for both Blue For You (IRE) and Tolstoy (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start; for Yanifer (GB) to go early to post.
Tolstoy (IRE), trained by Brian Ellison, ran the previous day, 13 June 2025 at York, finishing second of eleven runners.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Officer, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
An enquiry was held to consider why Ben Robinson, the rider of Tolstoy (IRE), unplaced, appeared to use his hand in an attempt to encourage his mount during the race, having dropped his whip just approximately a furlong marker.
The Stewards reminded Robinson of his responsibilities under rule D(2), that only an approved whip should be used to encourage a horse during a race.
Following the race, Ben Robinson reported that Tolstoy (IRE), unplaced, was slowly away.
