The Raceday Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Giselles Defence, ridden by J.S. Dalton, and trained by Sean Davis with particular emphasis of how the horse and rider exited the stalls when they opened. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. J.S. Dalton stated that his instructions were to bounce out and try get into a nice position and ride his race from there. He added that his mount backed away from the gates and was slow to come out and then went left. He said that his race was over at this point before it was even begun. He further added that he gave his mount a chance to creep into the race and did his best from there. Sean Davis confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He added that he was disappointed with the unfortunate start and felt that the animal may have resisted in the use of a different bit. He confirmed that the animal was slow to jump from the stalls on his previous run which was why he had changed the bit. He concluded by stating that he was happy the rider had gave his horse time to catch up and get into the race. The Raceday Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who reported the animal to be post race normal but had a minor cut on the right side of his mouth of minor consequence. Samples were taken for further analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the explanations given in relation to Rule 212. However, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that J.S. Dalton was in breach of Rule 213 in that he had failed to report significant information which he said had ended his race in the early stages. Having taken his clean record into account they suspended him for one raceday.
