He is a good horse, was rated 157 today and is still a novice for the year. He could head to Down Royal for the Champion Chase or we could keep him for the Drinmore (novice). He loves jumping and Danny gets a good tune out of him. I was going to put Jack (Kennedy, stable jockey) on him but come Down Royal and the Drinmore, Jack will have other horses to ride so I kept the combination together. We brought him to Ayr one day when he lost his confidence but is back going the right way now. He didn't win until Tipperary in May so is a novice for the whole season, and I don't know if there are as many novices with the experience that he has. This is usually a Bermuda Triangle race for me and this horse just seemed to drop the bridle coming down the hill. Once I got daylight, he hit another gear, though. His jumping would need to sharpen up a bit, but I think he'll improve plenty from it. I think there is a lot of room for improvement. we had really been looking forward to today and that is my first Graded win since 2011. It is a long time since we’ve had a horse like this and we’ve had a few false dawns, so it is brilliant to have one like him. I put the tongue-tie back on Ol Man Dingle today — he doesn’t need it but I wasn’t taking any chances. Ricky gave him a lovely ride, the horse has brilliant scope but can be a little brave. During his career prep, we thought an awful lot of him so went for a bumper, but he made a noise and choked. It was a good performance dropping back in trip. He maybe got under one or two hurdles down the back but in fairness he sharpened up as the race went on,. We got to see the improvement we wanted to see after Naas, he was a bit disappointing there and that was a bit more like it today. It was a fantastic ride by Brian,. He’s a very tricky horse to ride but Brian knows him well. He just bided his time and came with one run, that was the difference. You need experience in those two-mile handicap chases and he’s built that up. He had good-class bumper form and hurdle form, he’s just a decent horse. I’d imagine his route probably maps itself, all those good handicap chases. Now that he’s settling, he could probably go up in trip. That was nice. I thought two was a bit sharp for him. I was hoping to go to Fairyhouse or Punchestown and whether he’ll run there depends on the ground. It was just alright today, I wouldn’t have run him on anything quicker. He’s a big horse with a future in front of him, he’s a great leaper. At least he put a bad run here in the Grade 1 behind him. He was out of his comfort zone then on very bad ground. He’s taking a bit of time to mature and hopefully he goes the right way. He won a point-to-point, and I’d say he’ll make a nice three-mile chaser. I was surprised to see him win over two, which is always a good sign. He liked a bit of good ground. He’s a forward-going horse and I said to JJ after the last day (unplaced at Gowran) that I’d drop him back in trip and let him rattle. He is a horse that gets into a nice rhythm and jumps well, he was probably jumping too well to that hurdle (second-last) and he just met it on a half stride. A bit of a guess just when we were starting to get rolling. Overall, he's a good jumper and it was a good performance. The two of us (Three Card Brag) probably were in the same boat in that we wanted a nice gallop, but neither of us were really mad to make it. We went along upsides and we went a nice, even gallop all the way. It kind of suited both of us and, in fairness, this lad picked up nicely into the straight. It is beautiful ground - it is just yielding, it isn't any slower. It is lovely jumping ground. We didn't declare for the Grade 1, we had a talk and some were for it and some against it. If he wasn't going to win this, he wasn't going to win the Grade 1 in an hour's time. Why take on a horse rated 10lb above you? He'd won one maiden hurdle and is the best horse we have in the yard, so it's nice to get another win with him. He'd prefer easier ground, it's as nice as he'd want it, but it's lovely ground and the track looks fantastic. Next to my father Dan Browne is the greatest gentleman I ever met and is a great supporter for the yard. I delighted for Jim Coffey and all the lads involved. It means an awful lot for every trainer to win here and thanks be to God we got one. We'll probably start off over two-and-a-half over fences next season and build it up. It's great to get a winner, it's been a while since we had one. Mark gave her a lovely ride. He said they went very quick in front and he felt it just fell apart. . She is a nice mare going forward. She is a little bit babyish and made one or two novicey mistakes, which I didn't think she would, but I suppose they were going a good speed and it was her first time over fences. . It was a race for horses rated 120 or less over hurdles, so a lot of the higher class horses were ruled out. We'll have to see where she fits in as the season goes on. . I'm delighted with that, he was tough out and Darragh gave him a super ride. It looked like he was beaten turning in, but he just really ground it out. I think he did similar in his maiden hurdle here last year when Rachael won on him. He likes it here and it's brilliant to get one for the Brookhouse's. It was a good run the last day and he made a mistake at the third last that really took him out of it. I'd say this sort of staying track suits him better. It has been painful! Going from his bumper wins and the way he works at home, it has been a calamity. He is a work-in-progress regarding his jumping. He has been very slow to learn and Ger Fox schooled him at the weekend and Ger couldn't believe how he hadn't got the hang of it. When he left him alone at a hurdle, he still needs a lot of help. It is his first run for five months and Darragh knows him very well having won a bumper and maiden hurdle on him. We couldn't look past him with his 7lb claim on that ground, which is worth its weight in gold. This horse was my first winner, he is still flying the flag and is a mighty horse. He isn't big, but is very well-bred and jumps hurdles very well. He pulled up in the Galway Hurdle when they went a million (speed) and we were behind and beaten after the first hurdle. He didn't really get a race though, but the thing about him is he can hit flat spots in his races. . He ran well when finishing fourth in the Red Mills Hurdle at Gowran last year and that is an option again. It is mighty for the five-member syndicate (Red Strand Syndicate) and there are a lot of happy people here, although two are at home with Covid, another is in Copenhagen and he couldn't make it. He is a good horse, but didn't get the rub of the green for a while and he had surgery on a kissing spine. Since he started jumping fences, he is a different horse and he is entitled to win today's race with his run in the Supreme (Novices Hurdle of 2024). He will be better on better ground and his time of year is coming, so we'll place him as we go by. I would have loved him to go to Cheltenham, but one of his owners preferred to stay home with him and, with the slow year we've had, the horses are only coming back to form now. He had been a bit disappointing but it all came good today,. He had been difficult at the start a couple of times. In Galway he whipped around a bit and then got into it by coming up on the outside but then got cut off. Every day there was something. Today he jumped off nice and smart and jumped away well. Mark kept him to the outside to try and keep him sweet and he jumped well and won well enough. He's only six and we'll look for something similar. I wouldn't like the ground to deteriorate too much.
