R.P. Whelan, rider of Purring Along, trained by P.G. Fahey, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount leaned badly left
G.M. Ryan, rider of Saxon Kingdom, trained by Thomas Dowling, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got repeatedly bumped between the three furlong and two furlong pole
W.J. Lee, rider of Bamako, trained by A. Oliver, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount received three significant bumps at the top of the hill
L.F. Roche, rider of Akashaa, trained by Natalia Lupini, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got bumped all the way down the hill
The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference at the top of the hill and rounding the home bend involving Purring Along, ridden by R.P. Whelan, placed first, Saxon Kingdom, ridden by G.M. Ryan, placed third, and Bamako, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed second, where it appeared that interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. W.J. Lee stated that he received three significant bumps from his inside which pushed his mount out further on the track. He further added that he felt this interference had cost him a place. G.M. Ryan stated that he received three bumps from Purring Along which pushed him onto Bamako. R.P
Whelan stated that his mount was hanging despite his best efforts. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that Purring Along had caused interference to Bamako and as a result of this interference had improved its finishing position. As a consequence, the Raceday Stewards amended the placings to read as follows: Amended Result: First: Bamako Second: Purring Along Third: Saxon Kingdom Fourth: Hasiyna Fifth: Akashaa Sixth: Mark's One Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that R.P. Whelan was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly, and having considered his record in this regard (second offence), they suspended him for five racedays
