THE JOHN SMITH'S CUP (CLASS 2 HERITAGE HANDICAP) (GBBPLUS RACE) Permission was given for both Sportingsilvermine (IRE) and Altareq (GB) to go early to post wearing a red hood, Raammee (GB) to go early to post, and for Warrant Holder (IRE), Will Scarlet (GB), Dain Ma Nut In (IRE), Danger Bay (IRE) and Iron Fist (IRE) to all wear red hoods to post.
Yabher (GB) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference two furlongs out, involving, Salam Dubawi (GB), placed third, ridden by Andrew Mullen, Thunder Run (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Shane Gray, Respond (IRE), unplaced, ridden by P J McDonald, Danger Bay (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Daniel Tudhope, Dain Ma Nut In (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Tom Eaves, and Have Secret (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Billy Garritty.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Salam Dubawi (GB)’S placing as Danger Bay (IRE) had suffered considerable interference, losing both ground and momentum, before then running on strongly to the line under a hands a heels ride to be beaten by a quickly diminishing margin of half a length and a neck.
The Stewards revised the placings as follows: first: Raammee (GB), second: Hand Of God (GB), third: Castle Stuart (IRE), fourth: Danger Bay (IRE) and fifth: Salam Dubawi (GB).
The interference was found to be accidental as after Mullen had taken his right-hand off his rein, his mount shifted quickly left-handed, whereupon he immediately put his hand back on the rein, to straighten the gelding up, moving Thunder Run (IRE), which resulted in McDonald having to take a significant check, which in turn bumped and hampered Have Secret (IRE), which then resulted in Eaves and Tudhope having to take considerable checks.
Just inside two furlongs out, the winner, Raammee (GB), drifted left-handed bumping Salam Dubawi (GB), placed fifth, and further hampering Thunder Run (IRE), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Raammee (GB).
Half a furlong out, the winner, Raammee (GB), drifted right-handed away from the whip, before being corrected, intimidating Hand Of God (GB), placed second, off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Raammee (GB).
Following the race, Shane Gray reported that Thunder Run (IRE), unplaced, suffered interference two furlongs out.
Daniel Tudhope reported that Danger Bay (IRE), placed fourth, suffered interference two furlongs out.
Pierre-Louis Jamin reported that Auld Toon Loon (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed.
Lauren Young reported that Altareq (GB), unplaced, was denied a clear run two furlongs out.
Oisin Orr reported that Iron Fist (IRE), unplaced, ran too free.
